The British Renewable Association (REA) will be hosting the 7th British Renewable Energy Awards at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower in Knightsbridge, London on June 21, 2012.

The awards celebrate the achievements of companies and individuals who have done the most to advance renewable energy in the UK.

The awards have been running since 2006 and have rapidly become one of the more prestigious events in the industry’s calendar. Last year, over 350 guests gathered for the awards which were judged by stars from climate science, politics, the media, finance and environmental campaigning. The 2011 award winners included a Scottish island, the Welsh Government, Manchester’s ‘Mr Carbon Neutral’, and the man who created the first ever incentive for new renewable energy in the UK.

Pre-nominations for the 2012 awards have now opened; initial nominations can be made via a simple form here. You can pre-nominate anyone (including yourself or your company) for any award. Nominations close on Friday, March 2, 2012. After the nomination process has closed the judges will whittle down a shortlist for each award.

There are eight award categories – Community, flagship project, installer, manufacturer/employer, pioneer, political leadership, technological innovation and the newly-introduced journalist category.

The REA has also replaced the former Champion Award with The Judges Award. The Judges Award will recognise lifetime achievement in the renewable industry.
