The objective of this installation in Royston, Hertfordshire, was to mount as many photovoltaic panels as possible on the available roof space within a total budget of £14,000, which was 50% grant funded.

The house has an ‘L’ shape roof plan with south west and south east facing roof pitches – one in large plain concrete tiles and one in slate. Because two differently orientated arrays produce different voltages – two separate systems were required – each with it’s own inverter – also, due to the differing roof materials, each system required a different fixing system.

The completed system produces just over half of the house’s annual electricity needs.
