Research by specialty retail company BOXT has found that East Renfrewshire in Scotland saw the highest rise in renewable energy installations – including solar panels – within a year at 31.1%
This was followed by Midlothian, Scotland with a 26% rise between 2020 and 2021.
Using government statistics, BOXT found that Scottish local authorities dominated the top ten list of local authorities with the biggest increase in renewable energy installations, occupying 8 out of the 10 spaces.

BOXT also found that those living in London would benefit most from installing solar panels as it could provide their property with 13% added value. This echoes a report recently published by WWF and ScottishPower which found that making low carbon improvements – including installing solar panels – could increase the value of domestic properties by up to £10,000.
Residents in Brighton – the sunniest city of all those profiled in BOXT’s research – have an average electricity unit price of £0.29/kWh meaning that they could save £322.09 on their electricity bills per year by installing solar panels, according to the company.
