Trade group, the British Photovoltaic Association (BPVA) supported local businessman John Dace with his appeal when North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) sent him a notice of  “unlawful development”.

Th authority said that the system was “aesthetically damaging” the conservation area where his building is located.

With the support of his neighbours and local media, a total of ten councillors voted to approve the panels, with two abstentions.

BPVA Chairman, Reza Shaybani said: “This is a victory for our industry and common sense. The second biggest challenge we face as a country after balancing the financial deficit is keeping the lights on, so we expect councils to support the deployment of renewable energy technologies which will contribute to our energy security and will lower energy bills for consumers and businesses.”
