As promised, Shadow energy minister Huw Irranca-Davies put in an appearance on the last day of ecobuild to pledge his support for the UK’s solar industry.Hundreds of solar supporters gathered round Solarcentury’s Solar Hub to see what Irranca-Davies had to say.
Speaking out for the industry, the Shadow Minister promised to roll back changes to the feed-in tariff (FiT) if Labour were to come back to power at the next election. “I want the Government to think again about what it's doing to FiT,” he explained.
“We ad job creation across the UK and then all of a sudden the blocks are put on the steam. Now people have a fear the Government is not committed to renewables in a way that they said they were.”
Irranca-Davies continued to advise the current Government to think again, “You're being a bit premature […] you're using a sledge-hammer to crack a nut here.”
Highlighting the point that cast a slight shadow over the ecobuild event, Irranca-Davies explained that the initial investment brought forward by the feed-in tariff has been amazing; yet without it, the UK’s renewable energy market could be in for a bumpy ride.
