The Solar Power Portal Awards 2017 is now just three weeks away and the shortlisted entrants have all been publicised.

Nearly 60 nominations have been shortlisted across the 12 public categories, the winners from which will be announced during the gala dinner ceremony at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham on Wednesday 4 October 2017.

The occasion, always one of the highlights of the UK solar calendar, will this year be hosted by TV personality and renowned renewables advocate Robert Llewellyn.

As we countdown to the ceremony, Solar Power Portal is to shine the spotlight on this year’s shortlisted nominations, and today we look at the Ground-mount Solar category.

The shortlisted entries are;

Antrim Solar Cluster – Lightsource

Briar Chemical Solar Farm – RenEnergy

Clayhill Solar Park – Anesco

Flintshire Land-fill Solar Project – Lark Energy

Lightsource has taken its well-founded expertise in UK solar to Northern Ireland to develop this project in Country Antrim, consisting of five separate solar farms with a total capacity of 32MW.

The projects share a single grid connection to make them financially viable in what Lightsource says is a first for the island of Ireland. The five arrays are linked to a single substation using a “daisy chain” method. They were built in association with H&MV, Biosar and NIE, using components from SMA, Trina, Mevaco and Schneider.

But will Lightsource’s ingenuity be enough to see it retain its crown in the field, or will one of its rivals in the ground-mounted space take the award? All will be revealed on 4 October 2017.
