The Solar Power Portal Awards 2017 is now just a matter of weeks away and the shortlisted entrants have all been publicised.
Nearly 60 nominations have been shortlisted across the 12 public categories, the winners from which will be announced during the gala dinner ceremony at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham on Wednesday 4 October 2017.
The occasion, always one of the highlights of the UK solar calendar, will this year be hosted by TV personality and renowned renewables advocate Robert Llewellyn.
As we countdown to the ceremony, Solar Power Portal is to shine the spotlight on this year’s shortlisted nominations and today we take a look at the Product Innovation category.
The shortlisted entries are;
- BYD B-Box HV
- Multicontainer – Mobile Solar Plants
- Zappi – MyEnergi
- Q.PEAK RSF L-G4.2 – Hanwha Q Cells
- TwinPeak 2 – REC
- Sunplug – EDF/Lightsource
EDF partnered with Lightsource to develop Sunplug, which is essentially a combination of solar, storage and energy management software to help consumers generate, store and consume power.
The product was borne out of Lightsource’s R&D department Lightsource Labs and EDF Energy’s Blue Labs division, with the central and most innovative element being the Home Energy Management System – or HEMS – which provides live feedback on both the PV system’s generation and the home’s energy usage, allowing consumers to ultimately maximise their potential savings.
With both purchase and lease options available to the public, EDF and Lightsource have estimated that Sunplug could save consumers as much as £400 a year on their electricity bills.
So will the sun shine on Sunplug, or will one of its competitors reign supreme in what is always one of the most hotly contested categories of the SPP Awards? Find out on 4 October 2017.
