The Solar Power Portal and Energy Storage News Awards 2018 is now just a matter of weeks away and our respective shortlists have been made public.

More than 70 projects and companies have been shortlisted across this year’s 15 public categories, with the winners set to be crowned during the gala dinner ceremony at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham on Wednesday 17 October 2018.

This year’s ceremony will be hosted by esteemed architect and TV personality George Clarke, with around 600 industry professionals set to attend.

As we countdown to the ceremony, Solar Power Portal is to shine the spotlight on this year’s shortlisted nominations, and today we look at the Product Innovation category. Always one of the most hotly contested categories, this year more than 25 different products were nominated.

The shortlisted entries are;

  • Q.Cells Q.Flat-G5 Module – Hanwha Q Cells
  • SolarEdge’s EV Charging Single Phase Inverter – SolarEdge
  • Smart Energy Management System and Control Platform – Wattstor
  • SunSniffer Digital Twin – SunSniffer
  • The IQ7 Microinverter – Enphase Energy
  • Kaco Reactive Power Only Inverter – Kaco New Energy
  • The eMIG 2.0 Platform – PAD Technology
  • NeON R Series Module – LG
  • 50kW-120kW Inverters with Synergy Technology – SolarEdge

Launched in the UK in April this year, the IQ7 is Enphase’s seventh generation microinverter for use alongside the manufacturer’s Home Energy Solution. The IQ7 produces 11% more power and is almost one-third (31%) lighter than Enphase’s M215 and M250 microinverters which they have been deemed to replace.

Enphase has too looked at the actual installation of microinverters and professes the IQ7 to be easier and quicker to install, while two-wire cabling and semiconductor integration have been utilised to provide higher reliability and better economies of scale.

Will Enphase take the Product Innovation category for 2018, or will another entry from what was a packed crowd take the crown? All will be revealed at the Solar Power Portal and Energy Storage News Awards 2018.
