Earlier this week Solar Power Portal revealed the shortlists for this year’s Solar Power Portal and Clean Energy Awards, sponsored by Trina Solar.
More than 60 projects have been shortlisted across 12 categories ahead of what promises to be a glittering occasion at Birmingham NEC’s Hilton Metropole, hosted by stand up comedian Jimmy Carr.
In the first of a series of shortlist spotlight features, here are the nominees for 2016’s Residential Solar PV project of the year.
- The Phoenix Works – Dr Gunn Project
- Stratford Energy Solutions – Sycamore House
- Spirit Solar – Marwell Zoo Rhino House
- GB-Sol – Swinestead Lane
- Solar Kingdom – The Unpromising House
Stratford Energy Solutions (SES) completed a retrofit project on Sycamore house earlier this year. The 3.92kWp system comprises 12 327W SunPower X-Series all black panels and SolarEdge’s panel optimisation system.
SES said the system defied some of the reasons why solar was “continually seeing bad press” including the widely-reported cuts to the feed-in tariff, poorly-conducted installations and poor aesthetics. The all black panels sit against a dark-grey slate roof, images of which have been used in marketing for both SunPower and SolarEdge.
There is also the potential for additional technologies to be retrofitted. An Immersun immersion heater is already connected to the system, and the owner is to monitor the system’s generation, self-consumption and export before deciding whether or not to add a Tesla Powerwall .
The winner of this year’s Residential PV Project award will be announced at the awards ceremony on 5 October. Tickets are now available and can be purchased online here, or by contacting [email protected].
