Nominations for 2015’s Solar Power Portal Awards are currently open. Returning for its third year, the Solar Power Portal Awards will take place on 13 October, the first evening of the sixth Solar Energy UK exhibition in Birmingham.
In the run up to the 29 June nominations deadline, Solar Power Portal is taking a closer look at each of this year’s categories.
Apprentice of the year
A new category for this year, the apprentice of the year award has been designed to recognise those new to the solar sector. Awarded to an apprentice who has gone above and beyond to learn about the solar industry during an apprenticeship, the judges will be looking for exemplary candidates who have made a sizeable contribution to a company.
The UK solar industry has experienced astonishing growth since the introduction of the feed-in tariff, solidifying itself as Europe’s most important market this year. The continued success of the UK solar industry will depend on talented and passionate young people choosing solar as a profession. Framed in the wider context of climate change mitigation, the importance of a successful UK solar industry cannot be underplayed.
