The current Managing Director of Riomay, Alan Aldridge, has been named as the new Chairman of the Solar Trade Association (STA). Aldridge succeeds Howard Johns, who stepped down earlier this month.

Before joining Riomay four years ago Aldridge spent 13 years in Managing Director roles and 10 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) advising large businesses on how to improve financial performance. Aldridge has been an active member of the STA Board for two years.

“Over the last four years at Riomay, I have faced many of the same challenges as other STA members, such as dealing with the impact of legislation and tariff changes, market uncertainty, and challenges in business planning and price variations,” Aldridge explained.

“Hopefully the hardest part is behind us now, and with a bit more work, we can get solar on a path to long term sustainable growth.

“But now is not the time for complacency. I firmly believe that a strong voice in the industry is essential, and I will do my best to ensure that the STA’s voice is heard.”

The Association is currently working to ensure solar photovoltaics is included in the UK’s Renewable Energy Roadmap as well as securing a future for solar thermal under the Renewable Heat Incentive.
