Buckingham Group Contracting’s new office in Amersham is now generating its own local electricity thanks to its solar slate tiles.
High Wycombe-based solar installer Solinium was approached by Buckingham Group Contracting to explore the possibility of producing renewable energy onsite.
The project criteria was to meet the 10% renewables condition as well as achieve the six credits required for BREEAM ENE01 reduction of CO2 emissions whilst retaining the aesthetics of the building.
Solinium proposed installing SolarCentury’s C21e range of solar slate tiles. In order to meet the project criteria, 371 solar tiles were installed, generating over 16,130kWh of clean, green electricity every year.
Solinium predicts that the combined benefit of electricity bill savings and revenue generated from the feed-in tariff will provide an approximate return on investment of £153,786 over 20 years. In addition, the array will prevent the emission of 7.5 tonnes of CO2 each year it is operational.
