SSE Renewables has confirmed that its first solar project, located in Worcestershire, has entered construction.

The renewable energy subsidiary of SSE also said it had appointed Spanish developer Grupotec as the civil contractor for its 31MW solar project at Littleton Pastures.

Littleton Pastures solar farm will be located across a 77-acre site and is set to be operational in 2024.

“I’m delighted that we have now moved into the construction phase of our first solar project at Littleton Pastures and to be working alongside our partners Grupotec,” said Richard Cave-Bigley, director of solar and battery at SSE Renewables.

“Connecting more renewable power to the grid is vital for the UK’s energy security and net zero targets. We are looking forward to delivering more solar and battery projects across the UK, Ireland and Europe in the years to come.”

SSE Renewables stated that the project is being undertaken by its Solar and Battery team, which in early May 20223, joined the subsidiary to advance the delivery of a nearly 2GW project pipeline in the UK and Ireland, and to expand into Europe.

The SSE Solar and Battery’s 100-person team was previously incubated in SSE plc’s Enterprise division. SSE said at the time that the shift to working under SSE Renewables would happen with immediate effect and would help support SSE Renewables’ net zero goals.
