Renewable investment company, Abundance Generation, has announced the launch of its second crowd-funded renewable project – a solar energy venture in the South Downs, designed to help fund the installation of free solar panels in order to provide free electricity for locals.

The online portal is designed to help UK installers create fully-customised system designs as well as providing homeowners an easy way to evaluate the solar potential of their property.

The latest solar installation figures published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) show that, in the run up to August 1, installations increased by 115 percent from 3,855 in the beginning of July to 8,305 for the week ending July 29. Last week alone, installations rose by 62 percent over the previous week – from 26MW to 42MW of installed capacity.

Shropshire council has completed the installation of solar arrays on 17 schools across the county, with the help of solar installer SolarTech Ltd. The £1.5 million project saw over 3,000 solar panels fitted to the schools in just four weeks.
