Birmingham-based solar manufacturer, Sunsolar Energy, has penned a deal with Meyer Burger Technology for a new production line.

The £3.5 million deal will see the solar manufacturer receive a fully automated, integrated module line that will produce 60 or 72 cell solar PV modules as well as its MegaSlate range of in-roof solar systems for the UK market.

The order includes module lamination, cell connection, handling, performance testing and fast-track certification technologies with an initial annual production capacity of 35MW.

Speaking to Solar Power Portal, Sunsolar’s national sales manager, Adam Pearce said: “To be able to create a factory environment that will not only employ local suppliers to work with, but create new jobs and offer viable and inexpensive energy sources to the UK, is something we’re extremely excited about.”

Meyer Burger said that the equipment was scheduled to be delivered by the end of September, 2013 with Sunsolar Energy beginning production in November 2013.

However, Sunsolar Energy has plans, based on market demand, to add additional equipment to take production to 75MW per annum.
