Upbeat Energy has completed a bulk purchase project in Cambridgeshire, involving the installation of solar PV on more than 75 local buildings.

The eCoton Sustainable Coton team, supported by the Sustainable Parish Energy Partnership (SPEP) of South Cambridge District Council, set up the Bulk Purchase scheme back in 2011 before going to local solar PV installers to organise the best possible deal.

After approaching seven installation companies the scheme chose Cambridge-based Upbeat Energy. Upbeat started surveying and installing systems in September 2011 and all 75 systems were installed before the December 12 feed-in tariff deadline. The scheme was then continued into January and February, for the benefit of latecomers who were prepared to take a 21p tariff.

Coton village now features PV panels on nearly 10 percent of its roofs.
