A Wigan-resident has turned to solar power to help insulate his family from spiraling energy costs and teach his children a vital lesson in renewable energy.

Andy Lyon approached Burnley-based solar installers Solarlec about fitting ten solar modules to the roof of his home.

Mr Lyon said: “After starting a family my wife and I decided solar panels would be a smart way to cope with the rising cost of electricity.

“The Solarlec energy advisor who came to do our free home survey was very knowledgeable, attentive and superb in helping me understand the feed-in tariff and PV systems in general. He wasn't pushy, which I very much appreciate in a sales person that you invite into your home, window sales tactics just make me want to throw them out.

“The fitting team was amazing – on time, polite, helpful, friendly and efficient. Done and dusted in less than four hours with practically zero mess.”

After witnessing first-hand the power of solar technology, Mr Lyon now plans to have solar panel systems fitted on two further properties.

Ged Rowbottom, Director of Solarlec, warned consumers to act fast in order to secure the highest rates, stating: “Mr Lyon is now reaping the benefits of solar power and we urge other consumers to act now if they wish to enjoy the same considerable financial benefits – if they order before May 30, they will be able to take advantage of the current high feed-in tariff pay back rate of 21p per unit. This rate will be locked in, tax-free and inflation-linked for 25 years.

“After this date, new tariff rates are proposed that could significantly reduce the rate paid out to homeowners.”
