Renewable energy developer Belltown Power is to shift its focus away from solar and onto wind projects following the completion of four utility-scale solar arrays.
Belltown confirmed that all four projects, which have a total generation capacity of 50MW were designed, developed and made operational by its in-house engineering team, and all four were energised prior to the 1 April 1.4ROC deadline.
The new solar projects takes Belltown’s renewable energy portfolio to 14 separate sites and Michael Kaplan, chief executive at Belltown, said the developer’s model “continues to deliver value for investors”.
However Belltown CFO Tom Hill-Norton said that the company would now be shifting its focus onto medium-scale wind projects after the “strong window of opportunity for large ground mounted solar projects” had closed.
Large-scale solar projects yet to be connected to the grid face an uncertain future after the ROC deadline expired last month, and confidence in the CfD process has been significantly dented after just five projects were successful in the first round – two of which will not be built.
