Stow-based renewable energy installer Freewatt is opening a new branch in Loughborough.

Over the last four years the company, set up in 2008 by Julian Patrick, has grown from a turnover of £44,000 to revenue of £6.6 million in 2012.

Renewable veteran Laurence Duncan has been charged with overseeing the new Loughborough office. Duncan, who had previously been running his own renewables company for the last seven years, spoke about where he sees the highest potential for renewables over the coming years: “In my view the real growth area for renewables over the next five years is electricity generation for onsite consumption by large commercial users and institutions.

“The opportunities for large-scale commercial solar installations, supported by a range of renewable technologies, are huge in the UK. There are not that many companies around that have the experience or capability to offer this package or such a good reputation for high quality work. I'm relishing the challenge and the interest I'm seeing for commercial projects is already very encouraging.”

Patrick added: “We are extremely proud of the success we have achieved so far but we are passionate about the work we do and we want to expand our portfolio. Laurence has exceptional experience and knowledge of in the industry and is highly respected in the field. We are delighted he has decided to join our team and look forward to another great year.”
