Nominations for this year’s Solar Power Portal Awards are currently open. Returning for its fourth consecutive year, the Solar Power Portal Awards will take place on 5 October during the Clean Energy Live exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC.

This year’s ceremony, sponsored by Trina Solar, will be co-located with the inaugural Clean Energy Awards, and no fewer than 19 trophies will be handed out during an evening hosted by stand-up comedian Jimmy Carr.

In the run up to the 30 June nominations deadline, Solar Power Portal is taking a closer look at each of this year’s categories.

Large-scale Solar PV

Large-scale solar enjoyed a landmark year in 2015 and while 2016 stands to be somewhat quieter, there is still a sizeable capacity of ground-mount solar expected to be deployed by a wide and diverse market of developers and contractors. Most of this will have already have been completed given March’s 1.3 ROC deadline and there have no doubt been a large number of interesting and innovative projects completed.

Last year’s winner

Last year’s best ground-mounted solar project over 5MW in size was the Manor Farm project in Verwood, developed by Solstice Renewables. The 20.8MW project was completed on low agricultural grade land and comprised a number of biodiversity and ecological benefits. The judges also praised the community end educational benefit funds which were established as part of its development.
