Following the success of its solar photovoltaic design and distribution business, the Waxman Group has launched a renewables arm that will specialise in the design, consultation and supply of biomass boilers and solar thermal systems. The move is part of the group’s plan to strategically position itself at the forefront of design and distribution of renewable energy technologies in the UK.

Here in the UK we’ve managed to install a total more than 100,000 individual solar installations in just 19 months. However, with drastic feed-in tariff cuts on the horizon and a Government that doesn’t seem to understand, is the UK solar industry destined to fail?

Thanks to the December 12th FIT deadline its all hands to the pump here – and I am back on the tools for a few weeks. This week’s project is a 50kWp installation on the metal roof of a local auction mart.

The Scottish solar industry is bracing itself for the loss of “thousands of jobs”, if the proposed 50 percent slash to the FiT rate proceeds. The industry has over 140 companies currently listed as suppliers of solar PV, estimated to be worth £50 million to the Scottish economy.

Morrisons’ South West Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) now features a 220kW solar photovoltaics system atop its 59 acre goods facility in Bridgwater, Somerset. The installation, which consists of Kingspan solar modules alongside insulated panels, is expected to deliver approximately 197,279kWh of energy per annum.

Launching a more hallowed opposition to the recently-announced feed-in tariff deadline the Church of England has spoken out against Government’s plans. Hoping to purge itself of its carbon sins, the Church is calling on DECC to give places of worship, and other community groups, more time to complete planned installations. It is also asking for a special community tariff.
