Since the new proposed feed-in tariff rates were revealed on Monday one question has been asked more than any other: what does the December deadline really mean? In a bid to provide some much-needed clarity in this area, I’ve done a bit of digging to find out.

Yesterday’s proposed feed-in tariff cuts have prompted a great amount of solar industry backlash, the majority of which has been overtly negative. However, while much of the industry was hoping to wake up today from a Halloween nightmare, others felt that the cuts were justified, and feel they can be used to create a sustainable industry.

It is cited by many as being the ‘third industrial revolution’ but, having personally worked in power generation in several EU countries, the UK continues to be a reluctant bit part player, big on talk, lacking in delivery.

After weeks of speculation, rumour and conjecture the Comprehensive Feed-in Tariff (FiT) document has finally been published. This morning, shortly after 10.30am, the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) revealed what lies in the future for solar power in the UK.

This afternoon the Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change Greg Barker addressed the UK solar industry at the biggest industry gathering in the country. Speaking to an audience of 800 at the Solar Power UK 2011 Conference & Exhibition in Birmingham, the Minister revealed his plans for the future of solar feed-in tariffs.

After weeks of anticipation – and scrupulous planning – the UK’s largest solar industry event has finally opened its doors to the British public en masse. After making its debut in Munich and then opening for its first UK show in London last year, Solar Power UK has made its way up the M6 to Birmingham.

Renewable electricity supplier Good Energy has urged the public to opt for more microgeneration to reap the benefit of Government’s feed-in-tariff (FiT) before the rate changes in April 2012.
