UK power producer Enviromena has acquired a 30MW fully consented solar PV plant from Luxembourg-based RE Infrastructure Opportunities Holding S.à.r.l.

The 30MW Steeraway solar farm, in Shropshire, is scheduled to begin construction this year, having received planning consent in May 2023, put forward by RE Projects Development. A grid connection is targeted for 2026.

Steeraway was awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) in allocation round 6 (AR6), providing the development with an index-linked revenue stream for 15 years. As of the upcoming seventh renewables auction, 20-year contracts will be granted, under changes recently confirmed by the UK government.

Chris March, Enviromena’s CEO, said: “This acquisition represents another significant milestone in our mission to deliver a large portfolio of ground mounted solar in the UK.

“By offering price certainty over the next 15 years, the CfD contract strongly aligns with Enviromena’s commitment to developing sustainable, long-term infrastructure investments.”

According to Enviromena, the acquisition from the holding company, which is managed by re:cap global investors ag, based in Switzerland, demonstrates the company’s ability to transact on the global stage.

Nils Hammon, managing director at re:cap, explained: “In developing the site, we have ensured full compliance with all environmental regulations, incorporating measures to safeguard local biodiversity and minimise landscape impact, making the project not only sustainable but also respectful of the surrounding community and natural environment.”

Site plans include continued agricultural grazing once the ground-mounted solar PV is operational as well as biodiversity improvement measures, delivering a biodiversity net gain in habitats of 97% and hedgerows 55%.
