A 300MW/600MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) co-located with Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm onshore substation is expected to come online in 2026.
Analysis from Modo Energy has revealed that renewable energy projects awarded contracts under the Contracts for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round 6 (AR6) could facilitate 1.4GW of co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The government announced on 30 July that the budget for the sixth auction round (AR6) of the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme will see a £500 million increase, reaching £1.5 billion.
The 2024 Spring Budget saw the chancellor of the exchequer Jeremy Hunt reveal that the budget for the next Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction will be set at over £1 billion.
