The UK has installed more solar power systems in 2023 than in all of 2022, according to data from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

The first meeting of the government’s Solar Taskforce was held in May, with the group aiming to lay out a pathway to achieving the government’s target of 70GW of solar by 2025 within the next year.

UK Minister of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Graham Stuart, opened the UK Solar Summit in London today, reassuring the industry that the government was addressing pressing problems and meeting its targets for decarbonising the energy grid.

The launch of today’s Solar Taskforce, jointly chaired by Solar Energy UK and Graham Stuart MP, Minister of State for Energy Security and Net-Zero, marks a step change in UK government engagement with the solar industry.

The Government should “level the playing field” by expanding the investment allowance to the Electricity Generator Levy.
