Germany-based solar developer Athos Solar completed a trio of solar farms in the UK ahead of this month’s ROC deadline before selling them onto NextEnergy Solar Fund.
The three projects – two combined solar farms at Glebe Farm in Bedfordshire and a further project in Condover, Shropshire – were the developer’s first three projects in the UK and were completed at a cost of more than £50 million.
Work started on the Condover solar farm last November with more than 33,000 solar modules supplied by Canadian Solar fitted on the 24-hectare site, resulting in a farm with a peak output of 10.1MW.
The Glebe Farm project has a total capacity of 34MW and comprises 111,000 PV modules, and was one of two projects NextEnergy announced the acquisition of yesterday for £40.5 million.
Athos Solar’s Christian Linder said the firm was now looking for other locations in the UK and has other large-scale solar parks in the pipeline.
“Our advantage is that with the Weidenhammer Group we have a reliable, financially robust investor, which allows us to initially foot the bill for major projects like the parks at Glebe Farm and then look for a suitable buyer at our leisure,” Linder said.
