The latest solar installation figures appear to show that the UK solar market is finally stabilising. After weeks of concern surrounding a significant dip in demand the numbers released today by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) seem to show that the market may be starting to get back on track.

Ok so we really are nearly finished! The work depends on a lot of input from others – and while Griff and I can do so much, the peaks and troughs of the Solar PV market over the last few months has really impacted on getting all the various bits of information and feedback back to us. It’s been a very frustrating time for all concerned – but the end is in sight.

The call for solar panels has significantly reduced in the UK since Government announced feed-in tariff cuts. That’s a fact. While at one time installers’ phones were ringing off the hook while they worked seven-day weeks, now, just a few months later many are struggling to fill their weeks. Industry has come up with several reasons for this dip in demand, yet the most frequent culprit appears to be negative press.

Two British technology stalwarts, IQE and XP Power, have joined forces to warn that almost a third of all renewable electricity generated in the UK is wasted. The companies have estimated that the process of inverting alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC) leads to 7,600GWh of electricity being lost.

It’s really no surprise that the popularity of solar technology in the UK has increased in recent years. Government introduced an incentive mechanism to drive uptake just as component costs took a sharp dive. As word began to spread across the country UK consumers flocked in their thousands to find out how they could get their hands on solar panels and how, most importantly, they could reduce their energy bills.
