The Solar Power Portal Awards 2017 is now just a matter of weeks away and the shortlisted entrants have all been publicised.

Nearly 60 nominations have been shortlisted across the 12 public categories, the winners from which will be announced during the gala dinner ceremony at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham on Wednesday 4 October 2017.

The occasion, always one of the highlights of the UK solar calendar, will this year be hosted by TV personality and renowned renewables advocate Robert Llewellyn.

As we countdown to the ceremony, Solar Power Portal is to shine the spotlight on this year’s shortlisted nominations, and today we look at the always competitive Residential Rooftop PV Project category.

The shortlisted entries are;

  • Charis Holt – Spirit Solar
  • Dry Creek House – Naked Solar
  • Lochside House, Northwest Highlands  – AES Solar
  • Empower Community Solar Deployment – Empower Community
  • Heritage Homes’ Zero Carbon Development – SunGift Energy
  • Shawn House – Advanced Renewable Power

In what is certainly one of the most picturesque nominations Solar Power Portal has received, AES Solar completed a 2.5kW rooftop solar system atop this property in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland.

Having assessed the property’s energy consumption to be around the 10kWh mark, AES went about sourcing as much of that as possible from on-site renewables and installed five Viridian 500W panels which feed into a 25kWh battery system to boost self-consumption.

The PV array is forecast to generate more than 2,000kWh of electricity over the course of the year, and is complemented by a solar thermal system to contribute 1,600kWh of thermal energy.

But will the system, as attractive as it is, be enough to see AES Solar awarded the residential rooftop award, or will another of the six shortlisted entrants reign supreme? All will be revealed on 4 October 2017.
