St. Modwen, the UK-based regeneration specialist, has been granted permission to build a 5MW array of solar panels at an old BP Chemicals works site in Port Talbot. The project, which is expected to cost £15 million, will generate enough clean electricity to power around 1,500 homes a year.

Six UK universities are currently combining forces to develop a portable battery pack for British soldiers that will be powered by solar energy. By replacing the currently-used device the forces’ power packs can be made up to 50% lighter.

Marking its entrance into the UK solar market, REC has been awarded accreditation under the microgeneration certification scheme (MCS) for its Peak Energy Series Module. The certificate was awarded by the UK’s Board of Agrément, which grants approval for construction products, systems and installers.

Smart home technology firm PassivSystems has announced that it will supply Cleaner Air Solutions with 10,000 of its solar PV monitoring systems, enabling the solar PV distributor’s customers to protect their assets and simplify the feed-in-tariff process.

Norway-based solar energy company Innotech has received accreditation under the microgeneration certification scheme (MCS) for its Solar Economy Project product range. Granted by BABT/TUV Product Service, the Economy Project modules are now eligible for solar power subsidies in the UK.
