Solar asset management provider GreenPowerMonitor has been bought by international certification and advisory firm DNV GL in a deal that will give the Spanish firm access to a new global network of renewable energy projects.

GreenPowerMonitor is headquartered in Barcelona but serves over 200 customers globally and is responsible for 5GW of installed capacity, around 450MW of which is in the UK. Its monitoring systems help developers, owners and asset managers of large-scale solar power plants to optimise the performance of their plants.

DNV GL employs 2,500 energy specialists to support customers delivering a sustainable energy supply through testing, certification and advisory services. The acquisition of the smaller GreenPowerMonitor will add the company’s integrated management and maintenance solution, including hardware, software and services, to its offering.

Remi Eriksen, group president and chief executive of DNV GL, said: “The combination of DNV GL and GreenPowerMonitor is an excellent strategic fit and will enable us to serve our joint customer base with even better services. In particular, it brings together world leading domain knowledge, technical expertise as well as digital delivery platforms and data-driven services.

“I am sure this, together with our trusted independent position, will enable us to help the solar industry to advance even further.”

Juan Carlos Arévalo, chief executive of GreenPowerMonitor, added: “This is an important milestone and true recognition of our capabilities as a provider of scalable monitoring and control system software for the solar industry. This transaction will strengthen our global delivery capabilities and continued technological development, benefitting customers and industry partners.”
