Battery systems could allow 25% more renewable electricity to be used during peak times, Northern Powergrid has found in its Distributed Storage and Solar Study.
Northern Powergrid (NPg) has unveiled an £83 million plan to upgrade thousands of substations that will allow more solar to connect to its network without the need for costly upgrades.
Northern Powergrid is to plough £1.9 million into the creation of a smart energy grid across its network, allowing its eight million customers to trade power and services using their home solar and battery systems.
