Adding to the list of UK footballs clubs to gather solar support, Bolton Wanderers have signed a one-year partnership with Hanwha Group. The agreement will grant Hanwha billboard and video advertising space during home games at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium.

Everyone engaged in property matters will have come across the installation of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, in order to reduce electricity consumption from the grid and to take advantage of Government’s feed- in tariff (FiT) scheme. Social landlords and local authorities are making moves to undertake feasibilities and to commission installations, some with a wary eye on Government’s review of the FiT tariffs in April 2012. A key issue for their feasibility thinking is whether to self-fund installations or to do so via a third party, also known as the ‘rent-a-roof’ option.

France-based Rtone is set to introduce its latest photovoltaic monitoring solution to the UK solar market at the Solar Power UK 2011 exhibition, to be held in Birmingham on October 26 – 28. The Rbee Solar system, which is designed for use by installers, makes it possible to curb the breakdowns and failures of solar installations.

One of the world’s largest solar companies, Canadian Solar, has become the official solar energy sponsor of Fulham Football Club. The two-year deal extends Canadian Solar’s support of sports teams globally, including top European football teams Hannover 96 and 1. FC Nuremberg.

Councillors in Dundee have approved plans that could see solar panels installed across thousands of council buildings, including homes. The Council is now in the process of acquiring a commercial partner to install and maintain the systems over 25 years.

KN Renewable Energy has completed a 37.74kWp solar installation at the New Academy in East London. Designed using 204 Sharp 185Wp solar panels, the project is expected to produce 31,640 kilowatt hours of renewable energy each year.

UK-based solar energy company Solarcentury has donated a total of £130,000 worth of solar panels and money to SolarAid – the charity founded by Solarcentury to tackle fuel poverty and climate change with solar power.

Swindon Commercial Services Limited (SCS) has installed solar panels on its office, warehouse and bus depot roof as part of Swindon Borough Council’s Sustainable Energy Framework. By installing photovoltaics across the building rooftops, the Council hopes to reduce its carbon footprint as well as its rising energy bills.
