The rate of new solar panel installations in Britain has more than tripled in the last year, according to Drax’s ‘Electric Insights’ Q3 quarterly report.
Drax has applied to expand its Cruachan pumped hydro storage plant under Section 36, creating long-duration storage that could boost the rollout of renewables.
Drax has announced plans for a new underground pumped hydro storage power station, and will seek planning permission to expand its Cruachan site in Scotland to 1.04GW.
Scottish Power has confirmed that solar will feature in its future generation plans following the sale of over 2.5GW of gas and hydro assets to Drax, becoming the first ‘Big Six’ energy company to go fully renewable.
