Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham has received planning permission for what will be one of the largest solar photovoltaic roofs in the UK. Rotherham-based WS Systems, which rents land and roof space in order to install solar power, will lead the project.

BKS Energy, located on the Isle of Wight, has become one of the first in the country to achieve planning permission to build a solar farm. The permission has been granted by the IOW Council to allow for the construction of a 5MW PV park on a 20 acre site containing 21,000 solar panels.

Emsrayne Ltd, a private sector renewable energy company, is currently seeking planning permission for a four megawatt solar farm in Caddington, Bedfordshire. Following the Government’s feed-in tariff (FiT) initiative to inspire small businesses to create local jobs and reduce CO2 emissions, the company has worked over the last nine months at a cost of circa £100,000 in order to develop the solar park.

Work is now underway on the largest privately owned solar PV Installation in the UK to date.  The vast array, located on farm buildings in the west of rural Herefordshire, stands at 300kW.

This building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) system was completed on behalf of Tony Dawkins, who was keen to involve renewable energy in the plans for his home. Mr. Dawkins decided on a 3.17kWp system consisting of 72 Redland Duoplain PV Tiles. By opting for a BIPV solution, he was able to fit the PV tiles fitting flush with the surrounding Duoplain concrete tiles in order to achieve an aesthetically pleasing roof which also satisfied planning requirements.

OVESCO Limited, the industrial and provident society for community benefit, set up to raise capital via community share issue to invest in local renewable power projects, and Harveys Brewery are currently examining the feasibility of installing a 98kW solar photovoltaic array on the roof of Harveys’ main storage and distribution warehouse in Daveys Lane, Lewes.

A-SUN has revealed an ongoing industrial-scale project, which will be 1.16MW once complete, demonstrating the company’s commitment to larger-scale solar power in the UK. A-SUN has recently completed the 355kW first stage of this development, which is roof mounted.
